Tired of being misunderstood
You ever felt like no matter what you said or how you said it people just can't seem to understand you ? Well your not alone, communication is a funny thing. Everyone can talk...but few actually listen. I always looked at myself as someone who's great with the English language. Math ? Not so much but I kick SO much ass in English ! Even with this talent of being able to write clearly and talk clearly I still find myself misunderstood. Am I leaving too much room for interpretation ? Not specific enough ? These are the questions I ask myself. These days you can ask someone "whats going on tonight" and they would respond with "...yeah". That's not frustrating ? Shxt like that irks my nerves ! For the sake of my serenity I started researching stories of miscommunication.
In my research for answers to my issue I stumbled upon the story of the tower of Babel. This is an age-old biblical story about the race of humans that survived Noah's flood starting a civilization based on one language. The king at the time, a tyrant named Nimrod aimed to build a tower that can reach the heavens, a symbol of his own pride. God felt that human beings that are on the same page can accomplish endless feats and the lord said "Nah. It's a wrap for this shxt !". God then proceeded to strike everyone with different languages so they wouldn't be able to communicate with each other and they were forced to stop building the tower. A story on how miscommunication scatters people ; you can't build if you can't communicate !
The gnostic & occult teachings have a totally different take on the story of The Tower Of Babylon & miscommunication. G.I. Gurdjieff's also had a theory called the "four centers". It basically states that people think from 3 of our bodies main centers : the intellectual, the emotional & the instinctive.
Imagine being a person in tune with your emotions, in tune with nature trying to explain creativity to a coked up stock broker that only deals with #'s. He's going to dismiss your vision of sculpting a monument of art as dumb and an utter waste of time.
The intellectual man
The intellectual center rules logic and its seen in people who aim to rationalize everything. Although some of these people can understand things such as abstract thought it's usually hard for them to "get art" and things of an abstract nature. These people rarely understand creativity because they have to rationalize everything. They need a book to reference, a stat to check, something.
The emotional man
The emotional center is emphasized in people who are sympathetic to everything. They don't rationalize their feelings they just run with em. You can see this in protestors that will blindly support a cause or follow a political leader because it "feels" right. They obey their feelings. They are prone to being the artist and activists of society because they can understand abstract thought and bring life to it via a canvas or a cause. They speak to the heart like your pastor on sunday
The Instinctive man
The motor (instinctive center) controls our basic motor senses. The actions we do without thinking. The Egyptians called these people the Automaton's ; the Automated man. These people function on orders usually established by the intellectuals of society. These are our cops, our soldiers and more commonly our consumers. Our soldiers can obey an order and carry it out to their best ability WITHOUT question & our consumers will devour anything put in front of their face. They buy into anything, they believe anything as long as it was forced into becoming a norm by the intellectuals of society.
Now that we've covered the different types of human being I'm sure you can see how its easy to misinterpret what someone is saying. Imagine being a person in tune with your emotions, in tune with nature trying to explain creativity to a coked up stock broker that only deals with #'s. He's going to dismiss your vision of sculpting a monument of art as dumb and an utter waste of time. Imagine being an intellectual discussing politics with someone who merely gets up goes to work, comes home & watch reality tv ? It just wont work. In essence we need to strive to find a balance between our emotional, instinctive and intellectual centers. This helps us not only understand others but to understand ourself as well. It's not always because of other people why we are not able to communicate effectively but it's because we need to find balance within ourselves...
