The "Jay-Z" Effect

Let's face it folks, your favorite artist can't hold a candle to the god MC Jay-Z. Forget the fact that he has "the hottest chick in the game wearing his chain" or that he's a multi-platinum artist WITHOUT a number one single ever. No, what Jay-Z continues to do outside of music makes him virtually untouchable in hip-hop. Some Sunday's ago we witnessed even more how large his thumb print is all over sports, entertainment, and technology. At halftime during the NBA Finals (a largely televised media event) Samsung and Jay-Z announced the launch of his new album "Magna Carter Holy Grail" with a 3 minute spot featuring the likes of Rick Ruben, Swizz Beatz, Pharrell, and of course Jay-Z. Let's forget the hype of his album coming in less than a month for a minute and focus on sheer influence.

No matter the argument, few can match his iconic status or business acumen. This is the genius of Jay-Z; like him or not he’s positioned himself yet again to be the topic of discussion and first place finisher in hip-hop.

We all know that Apple is in heavy competition with Samsung for smart phone supremacy. Now while some see this partnership with Jay-Z as a desperation move, none see the marketing chess move Samsung just made. This is a worldwide televised event basically telling you owning a next generation Samsung phone, will get you get a highly anticipated album for free. Factor that with the point that Jay-Z is a living legend and practically everything he's involved with (Brooklyn Nets, NBA 2K13, etc.) has achieved monumental success and this is a recipe for disaster for the competition. Also, let's not forget that Jay-Z can't lose in this situation, Samsung has bought a million copies of his unreleased album at $5 a copy so he's already platinum! Fast forward past his unprecedented release and Jay-Z just had the twitter world on smash. For almost 3 hours H to the Izzo fielded twitter questions from fans world-wide. Now even if some don't think it was the great MC the idea that a living legend was actually reaching back to his fans is pretty awesome. Needless to say Jay had the Web on smash twice ! Now think of your favorite artist not named Jay-Z and ponder if they could pull off a move like this. No matter the argument, few can match his iconic status or business acumen. This is the genius of Jay-Z; like him or not he's positioned himself yet again to be the topic of discussion and first place finisher in hip-hop.
